Assumption College Announces Evening
Programs for
Summer Ecumenical Institute
Worcester, MA-The evening schedule for Assumption College's Summer Ecumenical Institute has been announced. The following events will take place from Sunday, June 25 to Friday, June 30, 2000. These events provide an ecumenical and contemporary perspective on the topic of this year's Summer Insitutute, "Saint Augustine: Pastor at the Dawn of a New Millennium." The Institute will also mark the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Augustinians of the Assumption, who sponsor the College.
The following evening programs are open to the public and will each take place at 7:30 p.m. There is a fee of $15 for the events noted. There is no fee, however, for the Opening Service and the Taize Prayer Service.
Sunday, June 25 Opening Service and Lecture delivered
by William Babcock
Mr. Babcock is a Professor of Church History at Southern Methodist
University and editor and contributor to the Ethics of the
St. Augustine and Paul and the Legacies of Paul .
He will present "Weights and Milestones: Augustine on
Love." This event will be held at the Chapel of the
Holy Spirit, Assumption College. There is no charge for the event.
Monday, June 26 *Gospel Music Concert
The Fabulous Bullock Brothers will be performing a gospel
music concert in the Salon of La Maison, Assumption College. Admission
charge is $15.00 per person and will be collected at the door.
Tuesday, June 27 *Chapel Concert
Frank Corbin, Cecelia Hervas, RA, and Jane Shivick will be
presenting a concert including piano, organ, and voice to be held
at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. Admission charge is $15.00 per
person to be collected at the door.
Wednesday, June 28 Taize Prayer Service and President's
Reception
The prayer service and reception will be held at the Chapel
of the Holy Spirit.
Thursday, June 29 *Kairos Concert
The Kairos Vocal Ensemble will present "Chant Through
the Ages" to be held in the Salon of the La Maison Francaise.
There will be an admission charge of $15.00 per person.
The Ecumenical Institute of Assumption College was originally established in 1968 and is now directed by Dr. Marc LePain, Chairperson of the College's Theology Department. The Institute's main concern is the basic issue confronting all believers in our day, namely the relation of faith to the modern world. The Institute is particularly sensitive to the fact that, in many instances, the real problems which believers face today lie deeper than the issues that have traditionally divided them. This Summer Institute is one of the many annual programs offered by the Institute.
