Assumption College Professor Returns from the People's Republic of China

Worcester, MA-Dr. William B. Talley, Director of Assumption College's Institute for Social and Rehabilitation Services, and an Associate Professor in the Social Rehabilitation Department, has just returned with an American delegation of rehabilitation professionals who traveled to the People's Republic of China during the first week of October as part of the "People to People Ambassador Program."

Dr. Talley was accompanied by twenty-seven social rehabilitation professionals throughout the United States, including Delegation Leader Ms. Linda Winslow, the immediate past president of the National Rehabilitation Association. While in China, the American delegation stayed in Beijing and Xi'an and visited a variety of hospitals and rehabilitation centers, where they met international colleagues of social rehabilitation and exchanged experiences and expertise. The group also enjoyed excursions to famous places such as the Great Wall of China and Tian'anmen Square.

During the past four decades the "People to People Ambassador Program" has arranged for more than 35,000 professionals to participate in the international exchange program. This program gives professionals who share an area of expertise a chance to learn from their peers through briefings, presentations, and visits to facilities, as well as other types of organized meetings. While in China Dr. Talley discussed opportunities for the development of exchange programs between academic institutions.

Dr. Talley holds a B.A. from South Carolina State University and a Doctorate in Rehabilitation from Southern Illinois University. In 1998, Dr. Talley was recognized nationally with a Who's Who Among America's Teachers Award. He came to Assumption College in 1998, and lives in Worcester with his wife and two children.
