
Worcester, MA-Assumption College's Beck Institute for Cognitive Studies sponsored a lecture entitled "Psychology, Religion, and the Care of Souls," by Dr. Wayne G. Rollins on Wednesday, November 8, 2000 , from 2:00-5:00 p.m. in the Salon of La Maison Francaise.
The lecture addressed the growing appreciation between psychology and religion, and in particular, the care of the human soul. Beginning with the earliest dialogues between the two fields of study, the lecture explord the nature and "destiny" of the soul/psyche, and how it is now understood in contemporary psychological and religious parlance.
Dr. Wayne G. Rollins is Professor Emeritus of Theology at Assumption College. He is the author of Soul and Psyche: The Bible in Psychological Perspective (1999), Jung and the Bible (1983), and The Gospels: Portraits of Christ (1964).
Commentary on Dr. Rollins' lecture was provided by Sr. Ellen Guerin, R.S.M., Dean of Studies and Lecturer in Theology at Assumption College, Edmund F. O'Reilly, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychology at Assumption College, and W. George Scarlett, D. Min., Ph.D., Assistant Professor and Deputy Chair of Child Development at Tufts University. The audience was also invited to participate in the discussion.
