Assumption College to Sponsor Lecture of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Worcester, MA- Assumption College's Office of Student Life will be sponsoring a lecture by Dr. Bruce Bridges, entitled "Dr. Martin Luther King: Reflections of the Past, Vision of the Future," on Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hagan Campus Center Hall. Dr. Bridges will discuss important historical aspects of the civil rights movement as led by the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and will examine the role of the movement and Dr. King in relation to mankind's evolution. Dr. Bridges will also reveal how this evolution helps to create a more equitable and just society for all Americans, regardless of race and class. A native of Durham, North Carolina, Dr. Bridges has traveled extensively in this country and in West Africa. He received degrees from North Carolina Central University and the University of Cincinnati (both through academic scholarships), and a Ph.D. in African History from the University of West Indies. He is presently professor of History at North Carolina State University. He also conducts "cultural awareness" seminars and workshops for educators, as well as for the community, and lectures on campuses throughout the country. A question-and-answer session will follow the lecture. The event is free and open to the public.
