Assumption College's University Transportation Center to Sponsor Transportation Career Fair

Event will take place in Conjunction with Tour de Soul

Worcester, MA–This Friday, May 25, 2001, The University Transportation Center at Assumption College will be hosting a Transportation Career Expo at Union Station. The Expo is designed for middle and high school students to explore how almost 10 million Americans are involved in keeping our nation on the move. The event is being organized to help youngsters become award of the career possibilities in one of the largest industries in the nation.

The event at Union Station, which is being held in conjunction with the Tour de Sol on the Worcester Common, will begin at 9:30 a.m. and run until 3:00 p.m. There will be various areas around Union Station with interesting transportation exhibits for students to visit. Currently, over 900 students have signed up to participate in this portion of the event.

The event will consist of the following:

Union Station will house various exhibits including the MBTA, Mass Maritime Academy, Mass Highway, Department of Transportation, and the Boston Society of Civil Engineers. There will be about 20 exhibitors in all.

Across the street in one of the vacant parking lots, Truck Drivers Union Local 170 will be bringing an 18 Wheeler, a cement truck, a Hostess Twinkie Truck, and a UPS Brownie Truck. The Hostess Twinkie Truck will have 1,000 Twinkies to give away to students.

In an adjacent parking lot, the Rhode Island Rapid Transit Authority will have a vintage Trolley and a RTA Transit Services Bike Rack equipped bus on display.

During the day, a Teamster's shuttle bus will transport students via Grafton Street to and from the Pacific Rail Service Pac Park on Franklin Street to observe intermodal operations.
