Worcester, MA-Students returning at the end of the month will find it difficult to recall what the old space looked like. Construction and renovation completed, the new student space in the Campus Center has been transformed and renamed. What was formally known as the "Junction," the old space held the campus snack bar, which was often crowed with students looking for a quick bite to eat between classes, or maybe an occasion group trying to study amid the noise.
When school opens on August 28, students will be surprised at the transformation the space has undergone during the summer months. It will now be called "Charlie's" and it will no longer be just a place to grab a quick snack. Students will make "Charlie's" a destination; a place to relax, gather with friends to watch one of the various lounge acts scheduled, or to get a cup of the City's best cappuccino at the new, state-of-the-art coffee bar.
But, "Charlie's" is more than a coffee bar. This facility has been compared to Planet Hollywood , a popular trendy restaurant, by those who have seen the completed construction. Besides the coffee bar, this new space of the Hagan Campus Center which is part of a $12 million renovation and construction project that took place this summer, had some exciting additions. New features of "Charlie's" include an expanded menu of the dinning facility, a Venetian outdoor patio, upholstered booths, and dozens of Internet ports making this modern addition to Assumption one that will attract the entire Assumption community. The wall of glass over looking the new entrance and outdoor patio will be a sure to catch the attention of those passing by.
This amazing facility will be renamed at a dedication ceremony on Tuesday, August 22. The ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with dinner and cocktails. "Charlie's" will be named after and will honor Charles E. Smith, District Manager for Sodexho Marriott Corporation, who has worked with Assumption College for 21 years. Charlie will be recognized for his outstanding service and for providing quality food service programs to Assumption College.
During the ceremony, President Plough will also recognize Sodexho Marriott Service's for their $1 million donation toward the renovation of the Hagan Campus Center Student Lounge.
