Assumption College to Hold Opening Reception for Publication;
Celebrating English Translation of d'Alzon Biography

November, 2003- An opening reception will be held in Assumption College’s Emmanuel d’Alzon Library on Monday, December 8, 2003 at 4:00 pm to celebrate the English publication of Emmanuel d’Alzon (1810-1880): A Champion of the XIXth Century Catholic Renaissance in France, by Gaetan Bernoville. Fr. d'Alzon was the founder of the Augustinians of the Assumption.

Dr. Claire Quintal, professor emeritus of French, and Fr. Alexis Babineau, A.A., professor emeritus of Chemistry, will be honored for their translation of this publication from French to English.

Dr. Claire Quintal was a professor of French and French civilization at Assumption College for more than 30 years, and served as Dean of the Graduate School for ten of those years. She is the founding director emerita of the French Institute, where she edited and translated more than 15 publications. She was a member of the first group of Americans to be awarded the Congressionally-sponsored Ellis Island Medal of Honor.

Fr. Alexis Babineau, A.A. '40 served the College as a professor, an administrator, and a trustee. He retired to Africa, where he served at an Assumptionist house of formation in Kenya and became the copy editor and proofreader for Paulines Publications Africa.
