Undergraduate Symposium to Celebrate Various Academic Pursuits

Worcester, MA (November 20, 2006) - Assumption College students are constantly engaged in fascinating research projects, internship experiences, and creative performing arts activities throughout the year.

This extraordinary work of students and their faculty mentors will be celebrated at the 13th annual Undergraduate Symposium on April 2, 2007. The day–long event will transform the Auditorium and Salon of La Maison Francaise into a showcase of exemplary student work in the arts, humanities, and sciences. The day will ideally consist of performances (music, dance, poetry), exhibits (art, posters, student writing), and oral presentations.

“We are very excited to truly celebrate what our students and faculty are doing beyond the walls of the classroom,” said David Crowley, assistant professor of Biology and point person for the symposium. “This event is open to any student in any discipline who wants to share their creative work. Every Assumption student should consider participating in this event.”

For the first time in the event’s history, a keynote address will be part of the festivities. Dr. Jo Paoletti, associate professor in American Studies at the University of Maryland, will be the featured speaker. Paolett’s address is entitled, “Poking and Prying with a Purpose: The True Nature of Research.” Lunch will be provided for all participants and cash awards will be given for the best posters and presentations.

Applications must be submitted to Crowley no later than December 1, 2006. An application consists simply of the interest area, a tentative title, the name of the faculty advisor, and what equipment if any will be needed. For further information, including a schedule and an application form, please visit www.assumption.edu/symposium.

Anyone interested in participating is also urged to contact Crowley via e-mail at dacrowle@assumption.edu or via phone at 508-767-7293.
