Symposium: "Aftershocks: Earthquakes and Divine Providence"

April, 2005—Assumption College presents a symposium, "Aftershocks: Earthquakes and Divine Providence" on Thursday, April 28, 2005, in recognition of the 250th anniversary of the Lisbon earthquake and in remembrance of the Indian Ocean tsunami.

The program includes afternoon presentations and questions at 3:30 p.m. and a roundtable discussion at 7:00 p.m., both taking place in the Salon of La Maison Francaise. A panel of three scholars will make the afternoon presentations and engage the evening discussion: Daniel Gordon, professor of History at UMass Amherst and the editor and translator of Voltaire's Candide; Victor Gourevitch, emeritus Professor of Philosophy at Wesleyan University, who has published widely on Jean-Jacques Rousseau; and Fr. George H. Tavard, A.A., author of over 50 books in theology and ecumenism, and emeritus Professor at The Methodist School of Theology in Ohio.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Marc LePain at (508) 767-7127 or malepain@assumption.edu.
