Graveline to Conduct Mozart Requiem
Worcester, MA - Professor Michelle Graveline will conduct the critically acclaimed Salisbury Singers, a Worcester-based mixed chorus of more than 80 members, as they travel through Worcester County to give two performances of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s final masterpiece, the haunting and magnificent Requiem Mass.
The chorus will also sing the majestic hymn Te Deum, by Mozart’s contemporary Antonio Salieri. The Requiem and music by Salieri were featured in the 1984 Oscar-winning film Amadeus.
Billed as the Amadeus Tour of Worcester County, the concerts will be accompanied by a full orchestra at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 30 at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner and 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 21 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 18 East Main St., Webster. The Salisbury Singers’ concert tour commemorates the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birth and joins celebrations and performances around the world that pay tribute to the preeminent genius composer. Dr. Graveline also conducted the Assumption College Chorale in a recent performance of Mozart’s Vesperae Solennes de Confessore (Solemn Vespers).
The concerts will spotlight four accomplished soloists: Rene de la Garza, baritone; Allen Combs, tenor; Dianna Daly Betit, mezzo-soprano; and Rochelle Bard, soprano. Also singing with the Salisbury Singers will be Assumption professors Leslie Choquette, Lance Lazar, and Hubert Meunier.
