Robert J.S. Ross to Speak During Sweatshop Awareness Week

As a part of Sweatshop Awareness Week at Assumption College, Dr. Robert J.S. Ross of Clark University will present a lecture entitled, “Slaves to Fashion: Sweatshops in Global Context,” on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. in the La Maison Francaise Auditorium.
Dr. Ross received a B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1963, and an M.A. and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1966 and 1975, respectively. He has been a professor of Sociology at Clark since 1972. He is Director of the International Studies Stream and among the founders of Clark’s program in Urban Development and Social Change. Ross is the author of Slaves to Fashion: Poverty and Abuse in the New Sweatshops (2004), a provocative and accessible history of the sweatshop.
Organized by Students Advocating Change (SAC), Sweatshop Awareness Week will be held from Monday, April 3 through Friday, April 7, 2006. Events scheduled for the week include:

Thursday, April 6 - Film: The High Cost of Low Price (20-minute documentary on Wal-Mart) - 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. (multiple viewings) - Hagan Campus Center Hall
