Assumption Prep Dedicates State-of-the-Art Auditorium
Renovation Part of $3.4 Million Campus Construction this summer

Worcester, MA (September 15, 2006) - The alumni of Assumption Prep will have a place to call their own after the dedication of a new auditorium at Assumption College named in their honor. The auditorium will be dedicated at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2006 as part of the Prep Alumni Weekend Festivities.

Assumption Preparatory School (originally known as Assumption High School) opened its doors to students in October 1904. It shared a campus with Assumption College until the devastation of the tornado in 1953. At that time, the College and Prep separated with the College locating to Salisbury Street and the Prep school rebuilding on its original site, now the home of Quinsigamond Community College

Although the Prep school closed in 1970, the alumni were always welcomed at the College’s campus, especially at the annual Assumption Prep Reunion held each fall.

To create a lasting legacy, the Prep alumni have raised almost $425,000 toward the $500,000 goal for the renovation of an auditorium in Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Memorial Hall. The 60-seat, multi-media, high-tech, classroom will house Prep memorabilia and be named in honor of the 1,300 Prep alumni and its lay and Assumptionist faculty.

Charlie Bibaud, prep class of 1951, and former director of athletics and math teacher at the Prep will be Master of Ceremonies. Peter Deckers, M.D., prep class of 1958, the executive vice president for health affairs and dean of the UConn School of Medicine, has served as chair of the Assumption Prep Auditorium Campaign, and will speak on behalf of the graduates.
