Business Students Present Marketing Project
April, 2006 - On this beautiful spring day at Assumption College the trees are budding, the flowers are blooming, the birds are chirping and a pig is roasting.
Business students Jim Lattanzi ’06, Jeff Jenkins ’07, John Lily ’07, and Jon Cohen ’07, sponsored an authentic pig roast to the delight of faculty, staff and students who were treated to this free lunch.
The roast, which started at 5:00 a.m. on the lawn of the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, is the brainchild of project leader, Jim Lattanzi. Lattanzi, who owns and operates his own business “Cowboy Jim’s BBQ” located in Lunenburg, MA and the three classmates are enrolled in Professor Mardi Hughes’ Marketing Management class this semester. As a class assignment, groups of students were to design and develop a marketing plan for a business and present that plan to classmates. This group of men chose to develop the plan for the business that Lattanzi has owned for a couple of years. “This has been a great opportunity to bring the concepts we have learned in class into practice,” said one of the group members.
The students, who did a full marketing analysis of the business, are hoping this practical exercise in providing free food to hundreds of potential customers, results in business and profits for the company. “We are hopeful that students who will be graduating will see our pig roast today and book one for their upcoming graduation parties,” said Lattanzi.
Besides the roasted pork, guests were also treated to baked beans, cinnamon applesauce, baked potatoes, stuffing, tossed and macaroni salad, and drinks.
