Gala II at Tuckerman Hall: May 1, 2005
April, 2005—Assumption College's HUMANARTS
presents the Opera Gala II on May 1, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at Tuckerman
Hall, 10 Tuckerman Street, Worcester.
Following the smashing success of Opera Gala I at Tuckerman last
year, five soloists: Jane Shivick and Diana McVey, sopranos; Aimee
Bordes, mezzo-soprano; Ray Bauwens, tenor; and Bryan McNeil, baritone;
accompanied by pianist Olga Rogach, will present Opera Gala II,
a program of favorite operatic selections. There is no charge for
admission, but free-will donations will be accepted.
The program will include arias and ensembles such as “It's
a Grand Night for Singing” from State Fair by Richard Rodgers,
the “Gypsy Song” from Carmen by Bizet, “Che il
bel sogno di Doretta” from La Rondine by Puccini, the “Libiamo”
duet and chorus from La Traviata by Verdi, “Barcarolle”
from The Tales of Hoffman by Offenbach, “Csardas” from
Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss, the “Bell Trio” from
H.M.S. Pinafore by Gilbert and Sullivan, as well as other selections
from operas by Donizetti (L’elisir d’amore), Bellini
(Norma), Verdi (Rigoletto), Mozart (Cosi fan tutte), and Puccini
(La Boheme). Program commentary will be provided by Dr. Frank Corbin,
director of the HUMANARTS series.
