Assumption College Presents Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Week of Remembrance

January, 2004—The Assumption College ALANA Network and the Office of Multicultural Affairs is presenting a week of remembrance events from January 19-23, 2004, honoring the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The schedule is as follows:

On Monday, January 19, the Office of Multicultural Affairs will show the documentary film, “In Remembrance of Martin” in Taylor Dining Hall from 5:00-7:00 pm.

On Tuesday, January 20, the Office of Residential Life will sponsor a Martin Luther King, Jr. and Civil Rights Movement picture wall display and banner. These will be on display for the entire day in the Hagan Campus Center. Later that night, at 10:00 pm, Campus Ministry will hold a candlelight prayer service in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, which will feature a reading of A Letter from Birmingham Jail and songs by the College’s A Capella Group.

On Wednesday, January 21, the ALANA Network/International Connection will present an exhibit of Remembrance Ribbons in the Hagan Campus Center. This exhibit will be on display throughout the day. At 7:00 pm, the ALANA Network/International Connection will also sponsor a candlelight march and a re-enactment of Martin Luther King Jr.’s legendary “I Have a Dream” speech.

On Thursday, January 22, the Office of Multicultural Affairs will show the documentary film “In Remembrance of Martin” in Charlie’s from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. At 5:30 pm, the Reach Out Center will sponsor a Dinner and Discussion at Charlie’s. This event will last until 6:30 pm.

On Friday, January 23, the Campus Activities Board and the Student Government Association will present a performance by the jazz trio Sonic Explorers at Charlie’s from 11:30 am-2:00 pm.
