
Assumption College to Sponsor 9th Annual Latino Film Festival
March, 2004—The 9th Annual Latino Film Festival will be taking place in various sites in Worcester from March 30 - April 4, 2004. Assumption College is the lead sponsor of the event, in conjunction with Centro Las Americas, WPI, and Clark University. The film festival will be shown at the Bijou Cinema, as well as Cinema 320. Admission prices at the Bijou Community Cinema are $6.50 for general tickets and $5.00 for students. Admission prices at Cinema 320 are $5.00 for general tickets, and $3.00 for students/seniors.
The films are scheduled as follows:
Cinema 320, Tuesday, March 30, 2004, 7:30 p.m. & Saturday April
3, 2004, 1:30 p.m—Julia, Toda en mi (Julia, All in Me),
Puerto Rico (2003), Director: Ivonne Belen. Begins on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and
Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The film is about a poetic journey that evokes the life
and work of the beloved Puerto Rican poet, Julia de Burgos.
Bijou Community Cinema, Saturday, April 3, 2004, 5:00 p.m.—Perico
Ripiao, Dominican Republic (2004), Director: Angel Muniz. This film is
about three musicians. Unjustly imprisoned for minor crimes, they manage to
escape from jail after ten years. Dressed as soldiers and armed only with their
musical instruments, they begin a strange and entertaining journey to reunite
with their loved ones.
Cinema 320, Sunday, April 4, 2004, 1:00 p.m.—Luces
de la noche (Night Trails) – Mexico (1994), Director: Sergio Munoz.
In this homage to 1940s film noir, a recently retired judge finds a photo of
the girl he loved in his youth. Overwhelmed by romantic nostalgia, he begins
a search that leads to confront a sordid past of political corruption, passion
and violence.
Cinema 320, Thursday, April 1, 2004 & Sunday, April 4, 2004—Ente
la tarde y la noche (The Magic Hour), Director: Oscar Blancarte. Minerva,
a writer in the throes of personal and artistic crisis, abandons her lover and
goes in search of the happiness she once knew in the magical world of her childhood
in the Mexican coastal town where she grew up.
