Assumption College Alumnus and Professor confirmed as Superior Court Judge
Worcester, MA (October 6, 2006) - Assistant District Attorney James R. Lemire of Paxton, was recently confirmed a Superior Court Judge by the Governor’s Council.
Mr. Lemire is a 1975 graduate of Assumption College and a 1978 graduate of the New England School of Law. He served as an assistant district attorney in Worcester County from 1979 to 1989 before going into private practice. He returned to the district attorney’s office in 2001 and has worked in that post since, serving as chief prosecutor in the drug, sexual assault and financial crimes unit.
Mr. Lemire has also been a long time faculty member in Assumption College’s Continuing Education Program since the Spring of 1981, and is an inaugural member of the Dean's Circle, a recognition reserved for those that have taught at the Center for more than twenty years. In addition to being in the classroom, he has served on advisory boards for Paralegal Studies and Criminal Justice at Assumption College, and has coordinated several mock trials on campus, giving students a real taste of the legal field. He received the Outstanding Faculty Award in 2000.
In a recent address to graduates of the CE program, Mr. Lemire spoke to the students about how he was inspired by their commitment to education. In the May, 2006 speech, Lemire said, “…Sometimes people just coast through the rut until they can retire. But it struck me one night as I walked into a business law class, a subject I had taught for well over 20 years, that my students were here making sacrifices, taking time from their families, in order to avoid the rut. The efforts of students like you made me realize that I could easily step out of the rut. I was inspired… Since that time I have looked at ways in my office and on campus to remain challenged”
It appears with this new appointment Mr. Lemire has successfully remained challenged.
