2005—The
following is a list of special awards and scholarships given at
the 2005 Honors Convocation in April.
The Eugene W. Byrnes Scholarship for academic excellence
in Natural Sciences was presented by Dr. Brian Niece to Jennifer
Mongeau '06 of Westboro, MA.
The
Boivin Scholarship for excellence in French study was presented
by Dr. Elisabeth Howe to Kristen Bartolomeo '06
of Shrewsbury, MA.
The David Christianson Fund award for achievement
in Foreign Languages was presented by Dr. Thomas Begley to Kristen
Kaddy '07 of Westminster, MA.
The Denomme Memorial Scholarship for study of French
was awarded to Elise Gross '06 of Melrose, MA.
The Dr. Maurice B. Plasse Memorial Scholarship
was also awarded to Elise Gross in honor of Dr.
Plasse who taught French and Theater Arts at Assumption for many
years. This scholarship is awarded annually to a student who has
demonstrated excellence, talent and passion for the French language,
or in Theater or Television Production at Assumption College. The
student must have a 3.0 GPA in courses related to these disciplines.
The Joseph Sheerin Merit Award for the Study of Classical
Languages was presented by Dr. Bonnie Catto to Shauna
Perkins '08 of Westminster, MA.
The Leo and Madeleine Remillard Scholarship for
excellence in French was presented by Dr. Elisabeth Howe to Amanda
Smith '06 of Newton, MA.
The William James Award in Psychology was presented
by Dr. Paula Fitzpatrick to Barbara Jalowiec '05
of Derby, CT.
The George S. Elias Scholarship for excellence
in Social and Rehabilitation Services was presented by Dr. David
St. John to Matthew Vail '06 of Portland, ME.
The Blessed Marie Eugenie Scholarship is presented
by Sr. Nuala Cotter to Elizabeth Sheehan '06 of
Mansfield, MA. This scholarship will be awarded annually to a woman
entering her senior year who embodies qualities important to Marie
Eugenie: an active desire to grow in her relationship with God;
a demonstrated commitment to service; a capacity to help build community
wherever she is; and a daring to do what is right, whatever the
cost.
The following students have been named Augustine Scholars.
These merit scholarships are awarded to juniors and seniors who
have been nominated by faculty and administrators on the basis of
their high academic achievement, who have demonstrated initiative
and creativity in academic and co-curricular endeavors, and who
are of demonstrably good character.
