Holidays Start Early at Assumption
Worcester, MA (November 29, 2006) - The holidays are starting early at Assumption College with plenty of festivities to spread the seasonal cheer.
The week kicked off with a celebratory tree lighting accompanied by some old-fashioned hot chocolate and greyhound cookies on Tuesday evening. Students are now looking forward to the annual Holiday Ball on Saturday, December 2 at the DCU Center. The theme is “Vintage Hollywood” and the evening will include a formal dinner and dancing.
In the spirit of giving, students and employees are asked to donate blood at the annual Holiday Blood Drive on Monday, December 4. This event will take place in Hagan Campus Center Hall from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Following the blood drive, students are invited to attend a comedy show with comedian, Jay Black, at 8:00 p.m. in Charlie’s Café.
On Tuesday, December 5, students will take a few quiet moments out of their harried schedules and reflect during a solemn candlelight prayer service in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. It will take place at 10:00 p.m. and will have the theme of “Waiting in Hope."
The birth of Christ will be celebrated a few weeks early on Wednesday, December 6 with “Christmas in Charlie’s.” In honor of the last day of classes, the offices that surround Charlie’s including, SGA, Campus Ministry, the Reach Out Center, the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Campus Activities Board will offer interactive booths where students can get their picture taken with Santa, create Christmas decorations, and enjoy some holiday sweets. Later that evening President Tom Plough will open his house and welcome students for a holiday reception. Following the reception, the Chapel Choir will present “Lessons and Carols” at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. The evening will conclude with the Winter Soiree Dance, which will be held in Hagan Campus Center Hall.
Thursday, December 7 will feature a Kwanzaa celebration at 5:30 p.m. in Charlie’s. Following that event, the AC Band will host a holiday concert at 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. As the clock strikes midnight, the annual Holiday Midnight Breakfast in Taylor Dinning Hall will be underway as students begin the preparation for final exams.
It is the hope that all students and employees enjoy the holidays in a safe and joyous manner.
