The first film in Assumption College’s French Film Series, Chacun Cherche son Chat (When the Cat’s Away) will be shown on Thursday, February 12, 2004 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at Bijou Cinema, located at 110 Front Street in Worcester, before the show. The prices are $6.50 for adults and $5.00 for students, seniors, and children under 12. Assumption College students will receive $1.00 off the student-priced tickets with a valid student ID. A shuttle bus to and from the Bijou Cinema will be available for Assumption students this evening. The bus leaves from the Plourde Recreational Center at 6:30 p.m.

Chacun Cherche son Chat, a 1996 comedy, is about an overworked Parisienne, Chloe, who takes leave of her flat for an overdue vacation. Upon returning, she discovers her cat, Gris-Gris, has taken a vacation of his own and cannot be found. Her search leads her on a voyage through her shabby, bohemian neighborhood, which is haunted by the twin specters of gentrification and social decay. This film is atmospheric, funky and full of improvisational spirit.

The theme of the series is “French Films for All Ages.” The protagonists in the films chosen represent all age groups, from young schoolchildren, adolescents and young adults, to mature adults and the elderly. All of the movies present a fresh or amusing view of the lives of these characters.

The series also features the films 8 Femmes (8 Women) on February 19, Etre et Avoir (To Be and To Have) on February 26, and Les Triplettes de Belleville (The Triplets of Belleville) on March 4.
