Department of Foreign Languages Presents
"Foreign Language Day"
March, 2004—The Department of Foreign Languages held
a "Foreign Language Day" on March 18, 2004. Italian, German, Spanish,
French and Classics were all represented by beautifully decorated tables that
showcased the culture of their language. Native foods, flags, currency, photos,
music, and symbols adorned each table, while students and faculty proudly demonstrated
proficiency in their languages.
"We wanted to attract students to foreign languages," said Elisabeth
Howe, professor of French, who helped to coordinate the event. "By showing
the cultural aspects of these languages, with images of the countries and native
foods, we hoped to interest students in taking foreign language classes."
