Nursing Home Residents go to College for the Day
Worcester, MA (September 19, 2006) - Assumption College hosted four residents and staff members from Beaumont Nursing Home in Northbridge on Tuesday, September 19.
The Beaumont staff included Heather Hough '97, director of recreation and wife of Keith Hough, administrative lieutenant for Public Safety at Assumption. The residents toured six buildings including the Multi-Sport Stadium, an apartment in the Living/Learning Center, and had lunch in the newly renovated Taylor Dinning Hall where they reflected on their visit to the College.
One resident, Josephine, 88, was impressed by “all the buildings and all the people” but what stood out the most for her was the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. Katherine, 91, or “Kitty”, as she likes to be called, felt the same way. “I loved every bit of the Chapel. It's the nicest one I’ve seen and I’ve seen a lot of churches," she said. Irma, 84, enjoyed the gym facilities and the suspended track above the three basketball courts in the Plourde Recreation Center. The residents bounced the basketball around and enjoyed their experience. Henry, a resident in his 70’s and the only male of the group, had a smile on his face the whole time. The residents are eager to return, and cannot wait to tell their grandchildren about their special day at Assumption.
