College’s Beck Institute Presents Workshop on Eating Disorders

Institute for Cognitive Studies presents a spring series on behavioral therapy
for complex problems with adults. The first workshop in the series will be entitled
“Eating Disorders: New Opportunities for Mental Health Professionals,”
by Mary Ellen Crowley, Ph.D. It will be held in the Auditorium of La Maison
Francaise on February 27, 2004 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.
This workshop will help participants recognize and diagnose anorexia and bulimia
in patients. Dr. Crowley will discuss how to assess whether medical interventions,
nutritional services, or medication are needed. Cognitive-behavioral therapy,
including determining the appropriate level of care (inpatient, partial hospital,
residential care, outpatient) will be discussed.
Maryellen Crowley, Ph.D. is an assistant psychologist at McLean Hospital and
an instructor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School. She is the former Clinical
coordinator of McLean Hospital’s Eating Disorders Partial Hospital Program.
Currently, she is an eating disorder consultant for several schools and hospitals
in the Boston area, and maintains a private practice in Arlington, MA. She regularly
presents her work at conferences and workshops around the country.
This workshop is worth three college credits. Registration can be mailed to

the door.
The remaining two workshops in the Beck Institute series include: “Treatment
Planning with Multi-Problem Patients: Using Treatment Target Hierarchies,”
that will be held on March 26, 2004 in the Auditorium of La Maison Francaise
and “Cognitive Therapy of Personality Disorders,” which will be
held on April 30, 2004 in the same location.
