Delaney '06 Awarded Fulbright Scholarship
Worcester, MA - Assumption College is proud to announce that Cristine M. Delaney '06, of Westborough, MA, has been awarded a Fulbright scholarship to pursue peace studies in Norway.
As the eighth Assumption graduate to receive the Fulbright award in the past five years, Crissy will integrate her Fulbright studies with work toward her Master’s Degree in The Theory and Practice of Human Rights at the University of Oslo. At Oslo, she will study the law and philosophy behind the law of human rights while completing an independent research project on how to communicate issues of peace and social justice through artistic means. Through her independent study, she will examine artwork on exhibit at the Nobel Peace Center, including works based on projects of past Nobel Peace Prize Winners, while creating her own pieces to convey peace driven concepts. She will also take an art class in addition to her human rights classes in order to complete her Fulbright in one year and her Master’s in two.
The Fulbright is a scholarship awarded by the United States Department of State for interested individuals to pursue postgraduate research or advanced graduate studies while experiencing another country’s cultural, economic, and political conditions to promote harmony and understanding between the United States and foreign nations. After completing an extensive application and research proposal, Crissy was accepted into this prestigious Fulbright program.
Crissy graduated Summa Cum Laude on May 13, 2006, with a double major in Political Science and History and a minor in English. While at Assumption, Crissy was active in the Reach Out Center, serving as Service Director for three years. She was a class senator in the Student Government Association and a History, Political Science, and Writing Tutor in the Academic Support Center. She was an Assistant Director of Students Advocating Change and a Spare Change Retreat Coordinator. She also was a student co-leader of the Katrina Mission spring break trip. She will now use her talents and experiences to advocate world peace through artistic means as a 2006-2007 Fulbright Scholar.
