College presents a lecture entitled “Foreign Mining Companies
and Human Rights in Colombia,” with human rights activist
Francisco Ramírez Cuellar (Aviva Chomsky, translator) on
Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. in the Salon of La Maison
Française.
This event is presented by the Latin American Studies Department,
the Departments of History and Foreign Languages, the Office of
Multicultural Affairs, and the Peace Studies Committee.
Francisco Ramírez Cuellar is a Colombian lawyer, unionist,
and human rights activist. He is president of Sintraminercol, the
Colombian mining workers union, and Human Rights Secretary of Funtraenergética,
the Colombian federation of energy-sector unions.
Aviva Chomsky is professor of Latin American History at Salem State
College. She has authored various books and has been active in Central
America, Cuba, and Colombia solidarity work for over 20 years.
