March, 2005—Assumption College's Chapel Choir, one of the campus's choral groups, provides music for the campus's weekly 7 p.m. Mass, the annual Mass of the Holy Spirit, the college's Advent Service of Lessons and Carols, and the Baccalaureate Mass, as well as other special liturgical celebrations. The Chapel Choir was recently invited to perform at the prestigious President's Council Dinner at Mechanics Hall in October, and sang backup vocals for the Kenny Rogers Christmas Concert Tour in 2002 and 2004.

In addition to campus masses, the Chapel Choir performs in several other venues, on a three-year cycle. Every three years, Chapel Choir members have the opportunity to perform in a fully-staged production of Steven Schwartz's smash-hit musical Godspell, last performed in March 2004, and present a Lenten Service containing selections from Handel's Messiah, which is forthcoming for April 2006. Also, the Choir will embark on its first Mission Tour to New York City and Philadelphia from May 16-23, bringing the gift of music to those less fortunate. They are also recording their first CD, which will be on sale to the public in mid-April.

The Choir is currently comprised of 60 students, who possess many levels of musical talent. Jane Shivick, director of Chapel Choirs and National Winner of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions, is the Choir's conductor. Dr. Frank Corbin, director of Chapel Music, lecturer in Music, and nationally renowned organist, accompanies the Choir.

Members of the Chapel Choir meet weekly on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. Education in refining good vocal and musical skills is taught during rehearsals. There is no audition necessary.  The Choir is non-denominational and has ongoing enrollment throughout the academic year.

Accepted students, please come by and visit our table
in the Plourde Recreation Center at the College's annual Open House on April 3, 2005. The Choir will also be performing that day at the 11:30 a.m. Mass. We will also be available at the Resource Fairs for students in the fall.
