Students to Participate in 5-on-5 Regional Basketball Tournament
Worcester, MA - March Madness has officially hit the Assumption College campus in the form of intramural basketball.
A women’s team of seven Assumption students known as the “AsCo Ballers” will compete in the 2006 Boston University 5-on-5 Regional Basketball Tournament from Friday, March 24 through Sunday, March 26, 2006. The event is sponsored by the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA).
The team, a combination of players from Assumption’s intramural basketball league, features Katie Boudreau ’06, Allison Kulis ’06, Emily Roy ’09, Jennifer Early ’09, Megan Atkins ’06, Kerry O’Dea ’08, and Renee Jordan ’09. This year’s tournament marks the first time that a team from Assumption will be competing.
Pool play will consist of four team leagues and will begin on Friday, March 24. Times will be determined based on the number of teams in the tournament. The top one or two teams (depending on the total number of teams) from each pool will advance to a single elimination tournament to be held Sunday, March 26. The winner of the championship game will advance to the NIRSA National Basketball Championship at Georgia Tech on April 21–23.
Tournament games will take place at the Boston University Fitness and Recreation Center, located at 915 Commonwealth Ave., Boston, MA.
