Bulgarian Ambassador to Speak at Commencement
 Worcester, MA - Elena Poptodorova, ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to the United States, will return to Assumption College on May 13, 2006 to serve as speaker at the 89th Commencement exercises.
Ambassador Poptodorova first visited the campus in the fall of 2002 when she captivated an audience gathered at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit for the Assumptionists’ celebration of Pope John Paul II’s beatification of three Bulgarian Assumptionist martyrs. In May 2003, she graciously hosted a well-attended reception at the Bulgarian Embassy in Washington, DC for Assumption alumni living in the DC area.
Poptodorova became Bulgaria's ambassador to the United States in February 2002. Her prior positions included director of the Directorate of International Organizations and Human Rights (2001-02), member of the Bulgarian parliament (1990-2001) and various diplomatic posts in Rome and San Marino (1975-1990).
