Untitled, Peter

January,
2005—Assumption College's Emmanuel d'Alzon Arts Series
presents "Works from the Assumption Collection", beginning
on January 17, 2005. This exhibit will be displayed until February
25, 2005.
The Emmanuel d'Alzon Library Special Collections
Department is home to many works of art, including the Student Collection
of Art (mostly prints) and a fine collection of Russian lithographs
acquired by Fr. Louis Dion, A.A.
The Student Collection was begun by the Committee for the Arts of
the Student Government Association in 1966, and the art works were
first exhibited in February 1967. In the introduction to the
exhibition catalog, William J. Des Rochers '68
explained, "This collection represents the students' effort
to realize the role which the visual arts can play in the life of
both the College and the community. To this end, the Committee for
the Arts undertook this project solely as a student collection of
art." Over the next few years, additional works
were purchased, and on several occasions art works were loaned to
the collection for display. The Student Collection includes works
by Peter Gee, Joan Miro, Arnold Singer, Paul Cezanne, Marie
Laurencin, and others.
