He has taught at Emporia State University, Whitman College, and Chatham College, where he is assistant professor of English and director of the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program.

Sunday, October 15, 2006 – Assumption College hosts the seventh annual Light the Night Walk for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society at 6:00 p.m. The Light the Night Walk is a fundraiser that provides community members with the opportunity to raise money to fight blood related cancers. Walkers each carry illuminated balloons, white balloons signifying survivors and red representing supporters, as they follow the designated route around the Salisbury Street area of Worcester. Registration will be held between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 pm outside the Hagan Campus Center on the evening of the walk.

Wednesday, October 18, 2006 – The Emmanuel d’Alzon Arts Series will host an opening reception for the “W.I.S.E. (Art) Guys Big, Big Art Show” at 4:30 p.m. in the Emmanuel d’Alzon Library. Monday, October 23, 2006 – Assumption College will host a screening and discussion of the film Tough Guise (1991) at 7:00 p.m. in the La Maison Francaise Auditorium. In this innovative and provocative documentary, Jackson Katz argues that widespread violence in American society, including the tragic school shootings in Littleton, Colorado and Jonesboro, Arkansas, and elsewhere, needs to be understood as part of an ongoing crisis in masculinity. This fascinating and critically topical film will enlighten and provoke men and women of all ages to evaluate their own participation in the culture of contemporary masculinity. Moderator for the discussion will be Dr. Evan Garber, a clinical psychologist and the Chairman of the Board of the Central Massachusetts Men’s Resource Center.

Thursday, October 26, 2006 – Poetry Oasis will present “memories like burrs,” the Poetry of Gertrude Halstead at 7:00 p.m. in the La Maison Francaise Auditorium. The event is a live showcase of Halstead’s poetry and her life as a Holocaust survivor. The readings, to be performed by local actors, will be set to an original music score created for the performances by local composer Mauro DiPasquale. Donation suggested: $5; students and seniors $3.

Sunday, October 29, 2006 – Assumption College HUMANARTS presents organist Paul Jacobs at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. Jacobs has re-invigorated the American organ scene with his once-in-a-generation gifts as a performer. His fellow organists have been quick to applaud his phenomenal technique and memory, his charismatic stage presence, his huge repertoire spanning five centuries, and the sense of showmanship he brings to an instrument more usually associated with staid and reserved performances. Jacobs is also creating new interest for the organ in the wider musical world, which has recognized him as a musician of rare stature.
