Sheila Frias

Class Year: G '92
Hometown: Worcester, MA
In July, Sheila Frias G’92 was appointed as principal of the new Worcester Technical High School. Sheila oversees WTHS’s new $90.4 million facility, located on Skyline Drive adjacent to Worcester’s Green Hill Park
A Worcester native and current resident, Sheila graduated from Providence College and returned to her hometown first to teach, then to design programs to turn the tide of the high-school drop-out rate with work, technical, summer, and comprehensive skills programs.
She started her career as an elementary school teacher at the Millbury Street School, followed by a stint as a special needs teacher at Mill Swan School. Sheila earned a master’s degree in Special Education from Assumption in 1992 and was named Worcester Public Schools 1997 Teacher of the Year. She worked her way up to the high school dropout program at the Comprehensive Skills Center, and ultimately into administration.
She was appointed assistant principal of Wachusett Regional High School in 2002, and became WRHS principal last year.
Worcester Tech H.S. enrolled its first Freshman Class of 400 this fall and in three years will have its full enrollment of 1,600 day students and an estimated 3,000 in the evening. “It will be a community center that’s open from early morning until 9 or 10 at night,” she envisions.
