Sr. Margaret Leonard '64 receives Legends Among Us award
April 2008 - Sr. Margaret Leonard '64, LSA, executive director of Project Hope in Roxbury and co-founder of the One Family Scholars program, received one of the first Legends Among Us awards earlier this month at One Family Inc’s annual Mothers of Inspiration gala in Boston.

Fourteen inducted to Alpha Sigma Lambda

April 2008 - The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) has named three Assumption football players, Matt Cerins '08, Jared Kelly '08 and Mike Otterbein '08, members of the 2008 NFF Hampshire Honor Society.



Graduate School Open House: School Counseling and Special Education April 21

Fairy tale musical "Into the Woods" Apr. 17-20
April 2008 - AC Upstage presents Stephen Sondheim's fairy tale musical "Into the Woods" from April 17-20 in Laska Gymnasium.



Founded by AC alumna Donna Nodson, Rebuilding Together Worcester rehabs houses this weekend
April 2008 - Donna Nodson, a 1998 Assumption alumna, founded Rebuilding Together Worcester in 2001. RTW deploys, for one weekend each year, an army of volunteers to paint, repair and rehab selected houses and service centers. The group will work on 10 projects throughout the city this weekend, April 18-20.



AC cheerleaders finish 12th in nation
April 2008 - The Assumption College cheerleading team finished 12th in All-Girl Division II at the NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship on April 11 in Daytona Beach, FL.



AC participates in M.S. Walk for Life
April 2008 - A group of Assumption students participated in the Multiple Sclerosis Life Lines Walk on April 12 in Worcester and raised $4,500, the third highest amount among Worcester-based fundraising organizations, for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.



President Cesareo provides commentary for WCVB-TV (Ch. 5) on pope's U.S. visit
April 2008 - President Francesco Cesareo, Ph.D. appeared on the April 14 newscasts of Boston's ABC affiliate (WCVB-TV Channel 5). A papacy expert, Dr. Cesareo is providing commentary on the visit by Pope Benedict XVI to Washington, D.C. and New York City this week.



Nicholas Burns named Commencement speaker
April 2008 - R. Nicholas Burns, the former United States under secretary of state for political affairs and senior American career diplomat, will serve as speaker at Assumption's 91st Commencement exercises on May 17 and will be awarded an honorary doctorate of public service. The academic procession will begin at 9:40 a.m. and Commencement exercises will begin at 10 a.m. on campus.



Maura Cook '08 receives UP Award
April 2008 - Senior Maura Cook recently received a Worcester UniverCity Partnership (UP) Award at the Colleges of Worcester Consortium's fourth annual "Colleges and Community" event. The "UP Award" recognizes the impact college student volunteers have on the community and the agencies for which they work.

AC undergraduate research competition winners
April 2008 - The winners of the 14th Annual Assumption College Undergraduate Symposium include one sophomore along with nearly a dozen juniors and seniors. The symposium, a celebration of student research and creative work in the arts, humanities, and sciences, featured keynote speaker Dr. Mary Mennes Allen, the Jean Glasscock Professor of Biological Sciences at Wellesley College, who presented a talk, "The Joys of Undergraduate Research."



Deandra Perruccio '08 receives Doyle Merit Award
April 2008 - Assumption College senior Deandra Perruccio is the 2008 recipient of the college's George A. Doyle Merit Award for Excellence in Economics or Global Studies.

AC employee Patricia Clark to swim Lake Champlain
April 1, 2008 - Patricia Clark works part-time in Assumption's Plourde Recreation Center. A mother of eight, she has also run 38 marathons and plans to swim across Lake Champlain, from New York to Vermont, for charity in August. She was recently featured in a Worcester Telegram & Gazette article.

Men's basketball advances to NCAA Northeast Regional final at undefeated Bentley Mar. 18
March 2008 - The men's basketball team defeated the College of St. Rose, 52-51 on Sunday, to advance to the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional final. The Greyhounds (24-10) will travel to Waltham and face Bentley College (32-0) Tuesday, March 18 at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to the Elite Eight at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, MA March 26-29.



Men's & women's basketball teams to play in NCAA Division II Northeast Regionals March 14-18
March 2008 - The men's and women's basketball teams have both been selected to compete in the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Tournaments. The women will play Friday, March 14 and the men Saturday, March 15.

March 2008 - Senior forward Corey Diethorn scored a game-high 21 points and added 10 rebounds to lead third-seeded Assumption College past second-seeded Saint Rose, 72-44, in the semifinal round of the Northeast-10 Conference playoffs on Thursday, March 6.

January 2008 - The Student-Athlete Honor Roll for the fall 2007 semester has been released. Five athletes posted a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Men's basketball team earns 1,000th win
January 2008 - The Assumption College men's basketball team recorded the 1,000th victory in the history of the program with a 64-62 win over Post University on December 29, 2007.



AC Band performs Christmas Concert Dec. 6
December 2007 - The Assumption College Band will perform its annual Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 6 at 8 p.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. The 48-member ensemble will play a variety of concert band pieces as well various holiday selections. This event is free and open to the public.

AC to offer MBA courses to Atlantic Union College undergrads
October 2007 - Earlier this month, Assumption College and Atlantic Union College (South Lancaster, MA) entered into an agreement to offer graduate business administration courses in Assumption’s MBA program to Atlantic Union College undergraduates.



ADHD workshop with Dr. George DuPaul Oct. 26
October 2007 – Dr. George DuPaul, a nationally recognized leader in ADHD research, will conduct a workshop titled, “Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: Assessment and Intervention Strategies," on Friday, October 26 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. in Hagan Campus Center Hall. There is a fee of $100 for this workshop.

October 2007 - Three-time Nobel Peace prize nominee Kathy Kelly will speak about the subject, "Is There a Future for Iraq?" on Wednesday, October 24 at 7pm in Hagan Campus Center Hall. A question and answer session will follow. This event is free and open to the public.

October 2007 - Assumption College Family Weekend 2007: "Families Together, Memories Forever” will be held October 19-21.



Light the Night Walk for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® Oct. 21
October 2007 - Assumption College will host the Annual Light the Night Walk for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® on Sunday, October 21 outside Laska Gymnasium. Registration starts at 5pm. The walk will begin at 6:30pm.



Inauguration of President Cesareo Oct. 12
October 2007 – The inauguration ceremony of Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D. will be held in the Plourde Recreation Center on Friday, October 12 at 2:30 p.m. Dr. Cesareo will be installed as the 16th president of Assumption College.
