What is Title IX?

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 protects people from sex discrimination in educational programs and activities at institutions that receive federal financial assistance.

Assumption College is committed to providing an environment free from discrimination on the basis of sex. Assumption provides many resources to students, faculty and staff to address concerns relating to discrimination on the basis of sex, which includes sexual misconduct.

If at any point during your experience here you feel as though you are subject to discrimination, please come to us and tell us.

Grace Blunt, Director of Human Resources and Title IX Coordinator, oversees and provides leadership for the activities of the Title IX deputies, the administrators who carry out investigations, compliance-related responsibilities and reporting. She also oversees education and training campus-wide on sex discrimination and sexual misconduct.

Title IX Associate Responsibilities

Assumption College has appointed associates to resolve complaints and address issues of gender-based discrimination and sexual misconduct within the college. All associates meet with the Title IX Coordinator  to coordinate efforts. Their responsibilities include:

  • Notify the Title IX Coordinator of incidents, including sex discrimination and sexual misconduct
  • Assist in developing an efficient and effective College response to each complaint; and
  • Where appropriate, assist with investigations of particular situations.

When Should I Contact the Title IX Coordinator or Associates?

Any student, faculty or staff member, or applicant for admission or education who has concerns about sex discrimination or sexual misconduct is encouraged to seek the assistance of a Title IX coordinator.

Contact the coordinator or associate if you:

  • Wish to understand your options if you think you may have encountered sex discrimination or sexual misconduct;
  • Learn of a situation that you feel may warrant a College investigation;
  • Need help on how to handle a situation by which you are indirectly affected;
  • Seek guidance on possible informal remedies or administrative measures to de-escalate or alleviate a difficult situation;
  • Have questions about Assumption College's policies and procedures.

Confidentiality

Conversations with the Title IX Coordinator and associatess are kept as confidential as possible, but information about incidents of sexual misconduct must be shared with relevant administrators if the College needs to take action for reasons of community safety. In all cases, the wishes of the person initiating the conversation are given full consideration.
