Assumptionist Sponsorship
The order of the Augustinians of the Assumption, founders of Assumption
College, was begun by an educator whose most cherished project was
the establishment of a Catholic university. Fr. Emmanuel d'Alzon
envisioned an institution committed to the pursuit of truth and
academic excellence. He sought the development of the whole person
and wanted students to grow in the knowledge of their human condition
as well as of their ultimate destiny. It is to Father d'Alzon that
the Center for Continuing & Career Education is dedicated.

Mission of Assumption College
Assumption College, rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition,
strives to form graduates known for critical intelligence, thoughtful
citizenship and compassionate service. We pursue these ambitious
goals through a curriculum grounded in the liberal arts and extending
to the domain of professional studies. Enlivened by Catholic affirmation
of the harmony of faith and reason, we aim, through the pursuit
of truth, to transform the minds and hearts of students. Assumption
favors diversity and ecumenically welcomes all who share its goals.
Objectives of the College
Assumption College is a community of learning in the Catholic tradition
and concerned with truth wherever it is found. The relationship
of teachers and students is at the center of the learning process
that takes place in this community and is the most effective means
for the fulfillment of the College’s intellectual, moral,
cultural, social, and religious purposes.
In order to assure that the learning process be as successful as
possible, the College holds the progress of each individual to be
of central importance, encourages its professors to explore with
their students the personal and social dimensions of the life of
faith, seeks within its means to provide the time and space needed
for true learning to take place, sees broad participation in its
governance as integral to its life as an academic community,
fosters co-curricular activities that complement its formal course
programs, and encourages its teachers and students to pursue the
highest standards of excellence in all their activities.
As scholars in a community of learning and as guides to their students,
as well as to one another, Teachers at Assumption are committed
to the liberal education of the intellect in the arts and sciences,
strive to act responsibly and to encourage students to develop habits
of responsible action, are specialists in particular disciplines
who attempt to discern each discipline’s relation to all other
disciplines and to the goals of the College, and promote and participate
in the co-curricular life of the College as an extension of their
activity in the classroom.
In their pursuit of a life of inquiry within a community of learning,
Students at Assumption should be intent upon acquiring knowledge
of the ideas, achievements, and figures that have formed the Western
tradition, should seek to gain knowledge of the ways of peoples
beyond their cultural horizons in order to better understand themselves
and the world in which they live, should maintain a balance between
specialized professional preparation and a general program of studies
and be aware of the need and place for both in education, and should
undertake their studies both for personal development while in college
and as a basis for lifelong learning.

Mission of The Center for Continuing & Career Education
The Center for Continuing & Career Education was established
to fulfill the educational needs of adult learners by providing
quality academic programs and services.
Assumption College is aware that education is a lifelong process
which involves not only the mind but the total person in relationship
to self, to others, and to God. The core of the education process
is a curriculum of liberal arts and science which serves as a foundation
for learning.
The specific objectives of the Center for Continuing & Career Education are:
- To assist adult learners in their quest for personal and professional
growth.
- To provide the community with opportunities for cultural, intellectual
and professional experiences.
- To provide opportunities to attain new knowledge needed to compete
in a changing workplace.
- To increase the adult learner's appreciation for lifelong learning.
- To provide opportunities for personal definition and understanding
of the implications of values, beliefs, and world views.
- To emphasize the knowledge adult learners share in common as
human beings and as inheritors of a specific cultural heritage.
In Assumption College's Continuing Education programs, adults
can study for personal enrichment, develop career skills, or earn
a degree. Regardless of individual needs, the Center's basic objective
is to help all students in fulfillment of their educational goals.
Consequently, all degree programs include general education requirements
that promote critical thinking, oral and written communication
skills, quantitative reasoning, and computer literacy, and provide
a foundation for the Western Judeo-Christian tradition as well
as an understanding of the human experience. In addition, coursework
in majors or certificate programs develops theoretical knowledge
and applied practice in preparation for a variety of fields.
