Certificate in Paralegal Studies
The newly-revised certificate program in Paralegal
Studies, which can now be completed in one year, provides
students with a general overview of the field of law and the
necessary skills to assist a lawyer or a law firm in the legal
preparation of a case. It further provides an understanding
of the environment of private, public, and corporate law.
The six required courses are as follows:
• Legal Research & Writing
• Litigation
• Corporations
• Estates and Trusts
• Family Law
• Real Estate Law
At least four of the required courses must be taken at Assumption
College.
A student may earn the certificate in conjunction with a degree
program. A bachelor’s degree is strongly recommended
for entrance into the paralegal field and internships are
encouraged. Optional courses are available: Introduction to
Law, Mental Health Law, Elder Law, Communication Law, Health
Care Law, and Criminal Law & Procedures.
