On Wednesday evening, April 23, Klezmer Conservatory Band basssist Jim Guttmann will bring his Klezmer All Stars to Assumption College's Hagan Hall for a free concert of klezmer music. The repertoire will include traditional klezmer as well as fusions with jazz, Latin and R&B and there will be plenty of room for dancing a hora, a cha cha or expressive movement.

Jim's career has taken him from Carnegie Hall to smoky dives, from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam to legendary folk music venue Club Passim in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He has played everything from klezmer to classical - and most styles in between. Whether he's swinging a jazz tune, holding down the clave rhythm in an Afro-Cuban song, or nailing a lively sirba with a klezmer band, Guttmann plays with great warmth, sophistication, and flawless time. Surrounding himself with current and former members of the KCB, as well as friends from throughout his career, he'll lead the evening's band through a program that reflects his many interests.

The band includes some of Boston's finest ethnic and jazz musicians including violinist Mimi Rabson, legendary clarinetist & tenor sax man Ted Casher, Tom Hall on baritone sax, the twin cornets of Mark Berney & Gary Bohan, guitarist Jon Damian, drummer Grant Smith and percussionist Ernesto Diaz.

Jim will talk about the upcoming show, play some cuts from the CD and possibly perform with part of the group on Dana Westover's show on WUMB-FM, 91.9 on your FM dial on Sunday, April 20 during the 2:00 PM hour. He will join Chet Williamson on Worcester's own WICN-FM (90.5 on your FM dial) between 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM on Tuesday, April 22.
