CHEMICAL/ OIL/ RADIATION SPILL

1. Report any spillage of a hazardous chemical or radioactive
material immediately to the Department of Public Safety/Campus
Police at ext. #5555.
2. When reporting, be specific about the nature of the involved
material and exact location. Public Safety/Campus Police
will contact the necessary specialized authorities and medical
personnel.
3. The key person on site should vacate the affected areas
until the arrival of Public Safety/Campus Police Personnel.
4. Anyone who may be contaminated by the spill is to avoid
contact with others as much as possible, remain in the vicinity
and give their names to Pubic Safety/Campus Police. Required
First Aid and cleanup by specialized authorities should be
started at once.
5. If an emergency exits, activate the building alarm. ALL
BUILDING ALARMS REPORT BACK TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY/CAMPUS
POLICE. You should also report the emergency by telephone
at ext #5555.
6. When the building evacuation alarm is sounded, and emergency
exists. Walk quickly to the nearest marked exit and alert
others to do the same.
7. ASSIST PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES EXIT THE BUILDING! Remember
that elevators are reserved for handicapped use. DO
NOT USE ELEVATORS IN CASE OF FIRE. DO NOT PANIC.
8. Once outside, move to a clear area at least 500 feet
away from affected building (s). Keep streets, fire lanes,
hydrants and walkways clear of emergency vehicles and crews.
9. If requested, assist Emergency crews as necessary.
10. A Campus Emergency Command Post may be set up near the
emergency site. Keep clear of the Command Post unless you
have official business.
11. DO NOT RETURN TO AN EVACUATED BUILDING unless told to
do so by a college official. REMEMBER, you may require to
undergo emergency decontamination procedures.
In certain situations, it may become necessary to prevent
potentially contaminated individuals from leaving campus
by blocking front and rear gates. Accurate head counts may
be also necessary.
Staging areas may also have to be set up in the proximity
of the incident. Wind direction, grade of landscape and access
must also be considered.
IMPORTANT: After an evacuation, report
to your designated assembly area. Stay there to receive
instruction.
