EVACUATION
General
Note: Do not panic! When the building fire alarm is sounded,
always assume an emergency exists. Walk quickly to the nearest
marked exit, closing doors and windows on the way out. Alert
others to do the same. ASSIST PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES TO
EXIT THE BUILDING (in most cases a person will be designated
with this responsibility).
DO NOT USE ELEVATORS.
Academic & Administrative Buildings
Evacuation:
1. When the alarm is sounded, IMMEDIATELY report to the
designated assembly area (See section: Evacuation Assembly
areas). As occupants exit the building and report to the
designated assembly area, conduct a roll call, ensuring that
all individuals, for whom you are responsible, are accounted
for.
2. Report to a Campus Police Officer with the names of any
individuals who are unaccounted for. Campus Police (or emergency
personnel) will evaluate the risks of re-entering the building
to look for those individuals.
3. Building Coordinators will coordinate Emergency Response
and Recovery Planning efforts for the respective building
assignments. A Building Coordinator will be available at
all times the building is occupied.
Campus Evacuation:
1. Campus Police will announce the evacuation of all or
part of the campus grounds (see College Notification System
Section).
2. All persons (student, faculty, staff) are to immediately
vacate the campus area in question and relocate to another
part of the campus grounds or area off campus as directed.
3. Campus Evacuation will be coordinated with the Worcester
Police Department and Worcester Emergency Management Office.
4. Every effort will be made to give advance notice of evacuation.
Resident Halls Evacuation:
1. Upon hearing the alarm, IMMEDIATELY exit the building
and report to the designated assembly area, closing all doors
and windows on the way out. Lock your door, and take your
keys with you.
2. Report to the Resident Directors/Resident Assistants who
will be taking roll call.
3. Report to the Resident Directors/Resident Assistants the
whereabouts of residents who have not answered the roll call,
and are known (or presumed) to be elsewhere (Class, off campus,
etc.) Campus Police (or emergency personnel) will evaluate
the risks of re-entering the building to look for those individuals.
4. Report any pertinent information (smoke, flames, smells,
injuries etc.) to a Campus Police Officer.
5. Stay calm and do not interfere with emergency responders.
6. DO NOT attempt to re-enter the building, for any reason,
until Campus Police sounds the "All Clear".
