Media Collections

The Emmanuel d'Alzon Library owns approximately 3000 media titles. There are 3 VCR/TV stations, 2 CD/Cassette players, and 1 DVD/TV station located at the far end of the reference area. In addition, two computer workstations may be used to view DVDs.

Sound Recordings: The library owns approximately 300 sound recordings on CD and cassette format. Many of these recordings are of classical music, arias and symphonies. Audio Books:The library has a variety of audio books available for check-out.

Movies: The library owns approximately 2700 movie titles, on VHS and DVD format. Because DVDs last longer and require less shelf space than VHS tapes, the library staff favors ordering current movies on DVD and is slowly phasing out the ordering of VHS tapes. Although many of the movies in the collection are educational or scholarly, the collection also features a number of current, popular movies.

Searching the Catalog for Movies (VHS and DVD):

If you know the title of the movie you are searching for, you may search for it as you would search for a book by doing a basic title search. If you do not have a specific title in mind and are looking for a movie on a particular subject, you may do a keyword search and limit your results to "Video/DVD" in the Quick Limits dropdown menu:

Locating Movies in the Library:

All movies are shelved in the reference area, behind the reference desk and are shelved by subject area. Use the call number at the bottom of the page to find the movie on the shelf. VHS tapes and DVDs are interfiled.
