Artists' Statement:

Living beside Lake Metacomet

Documenting variations and developments of The seasons of the exterior world and The seasons of the interior world as, Swirling side by side, They exchange fragrances and melodies Colors and tones Histories and ghosts The line and form of one inviting the other Softening the illusionary border between both We invite you into our discussion And the jingle of place and context

David's photos are arranged by season starting with autumn and ending in summer.  That means trees and leaves of course, but also water and sky, creature and flower.  He likes to capture the texture of things, tangible touchable things.  The realness of these things, made unnaturally still by the camera, draws us through the image of the exterior world towards the landscape of the interior.

As we move to that interior A.J.'s paintings offer us a guide through the seasons of myth. Here the signs and spirits of the collective experience of the ancients, as transmitted through a very modern mind, populate the seasons of the interior where Jazz and dream, color and vision create new forms and perspectives. A.J. reveals what is familiar to our dreaming eye shaking us out of our pretense of comfortable truths.

In the dialogue between David and A.J. life and art are celebrated by welcoming all of us into their aesthetic experience.
