Mission Statement Library, Media, Information Technology
Assumption College views information and its distribution systems as a valued resource. Recognizing that new technologies make possible ways of learning, teaching, writing, and conducting research that have never before been available, the College is committed to providing students, faculty, and staff with the tools and services necessary to foster excellence in the academic enterprise. The primary resources for acquiring, organizing, and disseminating recorded information which supports the educational mission of the College include the Emmanual D'Alzon Library, the DiPasquale Media Center and the Information Technology Center.
The mission of Library, Media, and Information Technology departments is to provide learning resources which enhance the curriculum and cultural life at Assumption. These resources include printed, magnetic, and electronic information as well as help in accessing these materials. These departments are dedicated to assisting students in making the best possible use of resources and enabling them to become active, independent learners. They are also committed to serving faculty information needs in their pursuit of scholarship.
The Library seeks to maintain and develop a diversified and current collection of literary and reference material in keeping with the changing needs of the College's undergraduate and graduate programs and with the research needs of the faculty. The Library emphasizes individual investigation of print material. It supplements this material with information that is stored in reduced or electronic forms. The Library also maintains printed and electronic catalogs of the information resources available at the College.
The Media Center provides the College Community access to information through a variety of audio-visual resources including audio, video, and photographic. It provides this access both within the Media Center and throughout the campus in order to support the curricular and research needs of the faculty and students. The Media Department coordinates the development of catalogs of media materials with the Library.
The Information Technology Department supports computer users in the Information Technology Center and across the campus. It is responsible for providing the community with appropriate software and hardware to support the information and processing needs of the faculty and students. It is also charged with maintaining adequate and reliable network access to electronic information systems both on campus and throughout the world.
