Network and Internet Gaming
The Assumption College Residential
Network can be used for academic pursuits as well as entertainment. On-line
gaming utilizing computers or game consoles such as the Microsoft
Xbox and Xbox Live, which requires a separate subscription
service through Microsoft or the Sony PS2 are commonly used. To
use either the Xbox or the PS2 you must first register you
gaming consol with the ResNet office.
Unlike the computer
registration process this is a paper registration. All
you need to do is provide you name, residence hall location
and campuses phone number. The ResNet office will then
give you an IP address, a gateway address and a DNS address. The
ResNet office has instructions for setting up an Xbox but not
a PS2. The directions are similar. ResNet, however
doesn't support the gaming consoles. If you have issues
that can't be covered buy the directions it is your responsibility
to do your own trouble shooting. We also don't provide
any additional network electronics or Ethernet patch cables. You
must swap your cable from your computer to your gaming console
when you want to play games.
