Additional Faculty Support Services

Each summer we offer training sessions on the current release of Blackboard. Look for announcements toward the end of spring semester. These sessions provide an overview of features allowing novice users to begin creating their first Blackboard course sites. In addition, the sessions provide an opportunity to discuss how to web-enhance a traditional face-to-face course with collegues in a variety of academic disciplines. As upgrades require we offer additional sessions on enhancements to the system.

Because of the difficulty of scheduling training to fit into individual schedules we do not offer Blackboard training workshops for faculty during the school year. Instead we will schedule individual sessions tailored to your specific goals. Contact Lynn Cooke (508-767-7165 or lcooke@assumption.edu) to schedule an appointment. In addition, we hire talented students who can assist you with basic course site construction tasks. Our EdTech Assistants are trained in the basic tasks required to construct a Blackboard site and can meet with you in your office to walk you through the steps of adding documents, creating discussion forums, or creating group, among other tasks. An added benifit of working with our EdTech Assistants is that they bring a student perspective to the use of Blackboard course sites.

In addition to classroom-based training opportunities, we are developing online materials that you can download and use to learn more about using Blackboard. See the faculty Blackboard documentation page for more information. Although Blackboard is a large part of our focus in Instructional Technology, we also provide additional resources related to integrating technology into instruction as well as teaching and learning.

Finally, we offer consulting on a wide variety of issues related to technology enhanced instruction and distance education. We would be happy to discuss the use of web page assignments, digital portfolios, or even basic instructional design. Contact Lynn Cooke (508-767-7165 or lcooke@assumption.edu) to schedule an appointment.
