College's Music Ministries include the Chapel
Choir, which provides music for the weekly 7PM
Mass, the Mass of the Holy Spirit, the college's Advent
Service of Lessons and Carols, and the Baccalaureate
Mass, as well as other special liturgical celebrations. The
Chapel Choir also performed at the President's Council dinner
in October.
The Choir is currently comprised of 65 students, who possess many
levels of musical talent, and is conducted by Jane Shivick,
Director of Chapel Choirs and National Winner of the Metropolitan
Opera Auditions, and accompanied by Dr. Frank
Corbin, Director of Chapel Music, nationally renowned
organist and Lecturer in Music.
Members of the Chapel Choir meet weekly to rehearse in the Chapel
of the Holy Spirit and work hard at refining good vocal and musical
skills while maintaining a casual atmosphere.
The Chapel Choir runs on a three year cycle. Every three years
Chapel Choir members have the opportunity to perform in a fully-staged
production of Steven Schwartz's smash-hit musical GODSPELL
(last performed in March 2004), participate in a Mission
Tour within the United States (May 2005), and
present a Lenten Service containing selections
from Handel's Messiah (April 2006). In
addition to the Chapel Choir are the 10
AM and Festival
Choirs. Established in 1999, these choirs are
comprised of members of the community including college alumni,
faculty and staff who worship regularly in the Chapel on Sunday
mornings. The 10 AM Choir sings for six Masses throughout the
academic year. The Festival Choir provides music for the Christmas
Eve and Easter Vigil Masses as well as other special liturgies
celebrated in the Chapel.
