WACT (Assumption College Television) was founded in the Fall semester of 1997 by Tom Burke (Media Services Supervisor/Lecturer in Television Arts), Ted Haley (Director of Media Services), and a handful of Television Production students. WACT was made possible when we wired the Assumption College campus for cable television (yes, this was first done in 1997). The design for the system called for the head-end to be housed in the DiPasquale Media Center, thus allowing us to have "control" over a selected number of channels. Well, we chose to take over channels 39 and 40 for our own broadcasting capabilities. Channel 39 became WACT and channel 40 became the Assumption College Bulletin Board. Anyway, the students were thrilled that we were able to broadcast television programs over campus, and within a few shorts weeks ACTV NEWS was aired for the first time over the Assumption College Television System!!!

WACT is complementary to the Television I (THA 395), Television II (THA 496), and TV Communication Skills (THA 388) courses at Assumption College. Although WACT is a student run organization, the advisor plays a significant role in all aspects of production in relation to production value, content, newsworthiness, and accountability. WACT's programming follows the mission of Assumption College and adheres to the college's goals, philosophies, and values.

WACT allows any student that is interested in TV Production to become involved , regardless of experience. Since the TV Production courses are very popular, they are difficult to get into. WACT serves as creative outlet for students who can't wait to communicate using the medium of television. WACT serves as a great opportunity for students to become involved at Assumption!
