       Television Production I - Beginning with an explanation of how Television/Film content is conceived, students learn the disciplines and techniques utilized within Television and Video production. Instruction in camera operation, lighting, sound recording, linear editing, Avid nonlinear editing, and graphics, as well as the aspects of scriptwriting formats and storyboards are emphasized. The roles of director, producer, crewmember, and talent are performed, with particular attention focused upon group and teamwork. Students will learn to communicate effectively through the medium of Television by producing a 30-second commercial (or PSA), a six-minute feature (utilizing both in-studio and field production), and studying the trends in network and cable programming.


       Television Production II - This course continues the theories and practices in greater depth and detail of the techniques of multi-camera studio production, field production (both EFP and ENG), scriptwriting, and nonlinear editing. Additional aspects of television production are emphasized: advanced Avid nonlinear editing, animation, special effects, line producing, and executive producing, as well as multiple television programming formats. The above will be integrated by the creation of an original 60-minute television program by the class. The challenge of producing a full-length television program will be examined, conceived and produced. The final production will be aired on the campus television network.

       Internship:  Director of Inside Assumption - Designated to a proven communication student upon application and approval, this internship provides a cornerstone of knowledge for a student that is truly driven in the field of Television Production. A realistic experience in television production is provided. The Director of Inside Assumption is responsible for the campus wide broadcasted program that will be aired approximately twice a month (6 or 7 episodes per semester). Responsibilities for the director of Inside Assumption include scheduling, management, recruiting, and training for a student produced news program. The director will be allowed to formulate and integrate his or her own creative vision while managing a staff of peers that may or may not be experienced in television production. Special attention is emphasized in regard to professionalism, effectiveness, and overall production quality of the Inside Assumption program. The student will have instruction and utilization of professional quality digital cameras and Avid nonlinear editing systems.

       Senior Project:  Producer, Inside Assumption - In addition to assisting the Director of Inside Assumption, the producer is responsible for a series of relevant news stories to be featured on the program. The student must formulate and produce his or her own segments that must be relevant and newsworthy on a campus, local, regional, or national level. Topics could include drug and alcohol awareness, acquaintance rape, politics, moral injustice, African-American history, etc. The student will be responsible for writing, producing, reporting, editing, and promoting his or her own series. The student will have instruction and utilization of professional quality digital cameras and Avid nonlinear editing systems.
