Circulation

Circulation registers all borrowers and checks out all library materials leaving the building. Generally, items are checked out for three weeks to students and four weeks to staff. Items may be renewed. Faculty and Religious of the Assumptionists may check out items for the semester. The video collection of over 2800 titles are shelved in the Reference area, and the audio collection of more than 250 CDs are available at the Circulation desk. Also available for pickup at the main desk are interlibary loans, and laptop computers for in-house use only (three hour loan time). The video and CD collections are catalogued and identified in the Library's online catalog.

Reserve

Reserve materials are also located at the Circulation desk. Faculty supplement their courses with materials which they place on Reserve in the Library. Students may request materials on reserve at the Circulation desk. In order to use Reserve materials, students must provide a valid, current Assumption College I.D. Reserve items are located in the Library Catalog by Instructor's name. Students are encouraged to bring a copy of the course syllabus to simplify locating materials. Reserve materials are intended for use in the Library only, as are Reference materials and periodicals.

Faculty can also place items on reserve through electronic reserves (e-Reserves) available through a course Blackboard or the Library Web catalog.

For faculty interested in reserves, many students in your classes may require access to the books, videos or articles at the same time. We ask that you take advantage of our Reserve service.  Just bring your photocopies (we do not provide photocopying services) and/or submit a list of the library materials you require to Janice at the Circulation desk, and we will take care of the rest. For more information about our e-reserve service, please go to our Web page of frequently asked questions.

Interlibrary Loan

For those materials not available at the Library, students, faculty and staff may fill out an on-line Interlibrary Loan Request Form. Interlibrary Loan is handled by the Reference Department. For most book requests there is no charge unless the lending library charges. Photocopy requests are limited to 5 per day and are also free unless the lending library charges. When items are received, borrowers are notified to pick them up at the Circulation desk or at the Reference Office. Items found locally may take less than a week to get, but users of this service should expect the process to take at least 10 days. For information about interlibrary loan for online users, see our page of frequently asked questions.

Borrowing from Worcester area libraries

Students are welcome to use any library in the Worcester area but they must abide by individual library policies. Please ask for an ARC card at the Ciculation desk which you'll need in order to borrow from other libraries. Assumption participates in resource sharing with the following Worcester area colleges and universities: Anna Maria College, Atlantic Union College, Becker College, College of the Holy Cross, Nichols College, Quinsigamond Community College, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Massachusetts School of Pharmacology, and Worcester State College. Each of these libraries will grant borrowing privileges to students of the other participating colleges and universities. Clark University and the University of Massachusetts Medical School will only accept student requests through interlibrary loan. For more information about the areas libraries, please see the section on Other Libraries.

Borrowing Laptops

Patrons are able to check out laptops for 3 hours at a time for use in the Library. When you check out a laptop, you're responsible for it ($1400), the laptop case ($60), the power cord ($60, and the lock and key ($31). Instructions on how to use the laptop are included in the case. If you must leave the laptop unattended, make sure to LOCK it and take the key. Anything you save on the laptop will be deleted the next time it's restarted. Please save all documents and downloads to a flash drive or disc and/or email them to yourself.
