LOCATING
JOURNALS
- In the d'Alzon Library
To determine if the d'Alzon Library owns a particular journal,
you may access our Catalog
and enter the name of the desired title. The catalog will include specific
information on where the journal is located in the library and which issues
and volumes we own. Bound volumes are shelved alphabetically on the second
floor while the most recent unbound issues are located in the Reference Area
of the first floor.
- In the Worcester Area
WAULS: Worcester Area Union List of Serials
Check WAULS using the print version (3-volume set) which is located in the
Reference Area or the WAULS Web version.
The advantage of the Union List is that you can immediately determine which
libraries in the Worcester area own a particular title.
FINDING JOURNAL/NEWSPAPER
ARTICLES
The d'Alzon Library has access to several different online
databases that index journals and newspapers. Some only give citations
and/or abstracts but sometimes full-text articles are included.
The databases listed below cover a variety of subject areas. For
subject specific ones please click on "Databases / Indexes"
to see the complete listing of the databases to which we subscribe
- Databases

- FIRSTSEARCH Contains numerous
databases in a variety of subject areas. Abstracts are sometimes available.
See a Librarian if you have not used this service.
- LEXIS-NEXIS Provides access
to a wide range of news, business, legal, and reference information. Full-text

Globe, New York Times and the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.
INDEXES &
ABSTRACTS
Print indexes and abstracts are helpful when you are trying to select or even
narrow down a topic for research. Most print indexes and abstracts are located
in the Reference Area of the d'Alzon Library. Please ask a Librarian for assistance
if you need help in determining the best index to use. Several indexes are available
online. For a listing of what's available in print and online, please click
INDEXES & ABSTRACTS.
Checklists are available for several of the indexes. Each checklist,
found in the revolving stand next to the index area, lists current
journals received by our library which are covered by a particular
index. A checklist is particularly useful when you must select
from numerous entries published within the past five years. You
can also get a sense of what journals are available in a particular
subject area such as business. If you just need one article, browsing
the current journals may be faster than using the indexes.
