RALPH DE LUCIA
1998, 2000 Northeast-10 Conference Coach-of-the-Year
Ralph DeLucia is the sixth head coach in the history of softball at the College and replaced Dan Santerre (Thompson, CT) under whom he served as assistant coach for two years. He is the first and only full-time softball coach in Hounds' history.
DeLucia coached the Franklin, MA High School softball team over a 10-year period (1987-96) compiling an enviable 165-48 overall record with four Hockomock League championships including 1996.
In his first year (1998) with the Greyhounds, DeLucia led the team to a 34-12-1 overall mark and 15-4-1 Northeast-10 Conference record. The team won the Northeast-10 Conference post-season tournament championship and advanced to its first N.C.A.A. Division II Northeast Regional tournament. In his second year the Greyhounds won the E.C.A.C. Division II Tournament and finished second in the Northeast-10 Conference playoffs.
Overall he has led the Hounds to a pair of Northeast-10 Conference championships, two N.C.A.A. regional tournament berths and an E.C.A.C. Division II Tournament title. He is the winningiest coach in Hounds history with 160.
Two players . . . his daughter, outfielder Stephanie and catcher Michelle Daley were accorded all-America honors, while DeLucia led the nation (.566) in batting in 1998. DeLucia and Julie Phipps (who led the nation in batting at .586) were named all-America in 1999.
He is also serves as the technical advisor and assistant in the department's equipment room.
He is married to the former Suzanne Holbrook and has three daughters, Danielle, a former Assumption College softball captain and assistant coach; Stephanie, a former captain (outfielder/pitcher), two-time all-America and four-time all-conference performer at the College, and Lianne, a student at Worcester State College.
