ASSUMPTION COLLEGE ANNOUNCES
MEN'S BASKETBALL RECRUITS
WORCESTER, Mass. --- Four Massachusetts all-star performers head the list of men's basketball recruits announced by Assumption College Coach TOM ACKERMAN.
Guard MARQUIS VICTOR (Methuen, MA/Central Catholic) averaged 20.2 points leading his team to the North sectional championship and was subsequently named to the Boston Globe, Boston Herald-American and Lawrence Eagle-Tribune all-star teams . . . forward GREG TWOMEY (Groton, MA/Groton-Dunstable), who scored 1,712 points, and earned Worcester Telegram & Gazette Super Team and Lowell Sun Player-of-the-Year honors . . . former Boston Globe and Boston Herald all star guard JUSTIN DICK (Newton, MA/Boston English/Cheshire, CT Academy) who was also named one of Connecticut's top 25 players by the Hartford Courant . . . and forward MICHAEL FOTI (Franklin, MA/Franklin), who earned Boston Herald and MetroWest News all-scholastic honors head the newcomer list for the Hounds.
Also coming to the Greyhounds is all-Western Pennsylvania forward COREY DIETHORN (Pittsburgh, PA/Sewickley Academy), S.U.N.Y.-Rockland standout guard AKERE BOMA (Minneapolis, MN/South) and Community College of Rhode Island standout forward JOSH MELUCCI (Cranston, RI/Cranston East).
The Greyhounds, who won 20 games in both 2001-02 (24-6) and 2002-03 (20-11), finished a disappointing 14-14 last year. Ackerman will have to replace his starting backcourt of three-time Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player-of-the Year SHAHAR GOLAN (Givataim, Israel/David Kilay) and ROY GOFFER (Nes Ziona, Israel/Kiryat Sharet) (13.6 ppg, 57 three-pointers) along with forwards O MC GEE-SHARP (Honolulu, HI/Kaiser) (11.1 ppg, 4.6 reb), JAMES LAMBERT (Germantown, MD/St. John's Prospect Hall) and CHRIS MC LENDON (Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun).
"Our recruiting needs were obvious," said Ackerman. "We needed to reload at the guard position---losing two outstanding players---and add substantial depth to our front court situation. Our goal was to make our team more athletic for next year to facilitate a more up-tempo style of play. The new year will obviously bring a new look to our team, but we feel very good about our new people."
The Greyhounds will open their season at Bloomfield, NJ College Monday November 15 before heading to the Shepherd, WV Tournament, Nov. 19-20.
